Langkawi day 1

And so Bunnyboi & I just came back from our long awaited holiday together!

We travelled to Langkawi, Malaysia this May 24-26 2014 and it's really a wonderful experience together as we rented a car and went driving around Langkawi.

Our Airasia flight ticket, inclusive of taxes & 18kg check in luggage was SGD382.00. Which is SGD191.00 each!



Day 1; 24 May 2014

Our itinerary for day 1: La Pari Pari > La Chocolatine > Eagle Square > Wonderland seafood > Kuah night market

Feeling eggggcited!!

We arrived in Langkawi about 15mins earlier than scheduled!

Car rental, island hopping and other activities counters.

Upon check out, we headed out to rent a car! There are a few car rental, island hopping and other activities companies around these counters and we rented a Toyota Vios @ RM180 for 3days! 

Thank god we went to survey around as the car rental company on the extreme left charged RM240, and the one next to it too, saying that "all prices are the same". However, being a Kiasu Singaporean, we walked to the next booth and the guy offered RM180 straight away!! The price of RM240 is for peak season (eg: school holidays from 26 May 2014) and because the school holiday hasn't started when we were there, we got to save RM60! :D 

We also purchased 2 tickets to island-hopping for the next day at 9am and transport was provided to and fro the hotel for RM40.

The company we rented the car is Indra and there were no GPS provided. The only GPS was the map that the car rental company gave! We were actually surprised that the roads in Langkawi were actually easy to drive around, we hardly got lost! All we had to do was follow the map and look out for the signboards and when the sign said to turn right, I learnt that its the next available turn. Hard to explain but you'll get it when you're there! 

After which, we checked the exterior and interior of the car to ensure that the car was in good condition before we drove off for a test drive (just in case). It's always good to take pictures of the car too for proof as we are in a foreign land and we do not know how to converse in Malay.

We then headed off to the petrol station to pump RM30 worth and it increased to 2 bars. It actually lasted us for these 2 days but we topped up another RM10 on our last night there.

As Langkawi is quite a small island, our hotel La Pari Pari was located about a 10-15mins drive from the airport. La Pari Pari is also located quite near towards the end of Pulau Tengah, and located away from the road, such that you've to turn into the mini alley to reach your destination.

Opened in April 2012, it was ranked 1st in Trip Advisor and they were also awarded a Certificate of Excellence 2014! 

We chose this boutique hotel as it only has 12 rooms and it's really the best decision ever! Upon arrival, the receptionist greeted us by our names and it was really a heart-warming welcome. This is the first time any hotel staff welcomed us this way and it definitely made our day. They also gave us water to quench our thirst while doing the preparations of checking in at the counter. Their staff also asked if I needed a hair dryer and it is these gestures that really leave a kind and thoughtful impression!

 Oh and because we are going on an island hopping tour at 9am the next day and have an early flight to catch on our last day here, they even offered to send us our breakfast the night before! How thoughtful! Best service ever!!

Thank you La Pari Pari for making our stay a memorable and enjoyable one! And also thank you for assisting my boyfriend with the lovely surprise! We will definitely come back again :)

Getting there: 

"From the airport or Kuah town, head to Pantai Tengah. We are situated in a little lane right after the Sun complex (look for the three-storey building on your left with a huge sun on it) and across the road from The Colonial hotel. Turn left right after the Sun building (you will see our little hotel sign in blue). We are approximately 120 meters down that lane.

Pantai Cenang, the traditional favourite of beach goers is a mere five-minute bicycle ride away."

On our way to La Pari Pari, we saw La Chocolatine and Sun Cafe! 2 of the highly raved cafes by bloggers and it's sooo near our hotel! About less than 5mins drive, we could actually walk!

The croissant is really delicious! Crisp on the outside and sweet on the inside. The boy would've enjoyed it more if it was toasted before serving.

The chocolate pastry on the other hand is also tasty, but croissant is definitely much better.

Service wise, we weren't greeted with smiles when we placed our orders, and when I requested for a set of knife and fork, I was replied with "we don't serve pastries with utensils", but still attended to my request anyway. Understandable, but it was kinda hard for me to chew onto the pastry because of my tooth extractions. :(

And the next thing we knew, I guess it was the owner of the shop, when he was in the shop, the server's attitude was a 360degree turnover! When we went to pay for our meal, he smiled at us and we had a brief conversation. Haha that's what we all do, don't we? When our bosses are around, we always have to put on a good and friendly behavior. ;)

We then drove off to Kuah town for some sight-seeing: Eagle Square. Kuah town is a mini town where all the food-hunt places are and the Saturday night market too. Haha and because it is a mini town, those places that we have planned to go before we arrived at Langkawi, we found them without even finding it! 

For dinner, we decided to head to Wonderland Seafood!

Fried chicken RM10, Guotiao RM5, Kailan RM10, Barley RM2
Total cost: RM27!

We both loved the guo tiao as it was really soft! Which was even better for me because I had 4 of my wisdom tooth extracted the week before and chewing too much leaves my lower jaw sore and numb.

The kailan however, was tooooo salty! The fried chicken was kinda dry too. 

Nonetheless, dinner was still cheap! :)

There are night markets everyday in Langkawi, and it's located at different locations. You can find food, clothes, footwear and even toys! It's like the Singapore version of Pasar Malam.

Hopefully you can remember the faces as this stall sells nicer murtabak where you can really taste more of the egg, chicken and onions. 

Remember I was mentioning that as Kuah town is quite small, we hardly had to search for the places we wanted to go. Like Coco Valley! It's just down the stretch from the night market and its also opposite Water Garden Hawker Centre/Rootian Seafood.

There are 2 Coco Valley duty free shops in Kuah town, the first is as mentioned above, and the next is right beside Underwater World. I would suggest heading to the one beside Underwater World, as there seems to be slightly more varieties and it's much bigger there too.

Driving back to our hotel was a challenge as we weren't familiar with the road and there were very few street lamps! It's as if we were on a Night Safari adventure kind of experience. :)
